- The 11-member Senate subcommittee has oversight over military readiness ,including: training, logistics, and maintenance; military construction; housing construction and privatization; contracting and acquisition policy; business and financial management; base realignment and closure; and defense energy and environmental programs.

- Attorney general of Alaska (2009-2010).
- Assistant secretary of state for Economic, Energy and Business Affairs under during George W. Bush administration (2006-2009).
- Served on the National Economic Council and the National Security Council in the George W. Bush administration.
- Director of the International Economics Directorate of the National Security Council and White House National Economic Council staffs (2002-2004).
- Lawyer for the Anchorage-based law firm of Perkins Coie, LLP, focusing on corporate law and commercial litigation (2000-2002).
- Clerked for Judge Andrew Kleinfeld in Fairbanks, Alaska, and for Chief Justice Warren Matthews of the Alaska Supreme Court (1997-1999).
- Served in the Marine Corps (active duty) from 1993 to 1997 and in the Marine Corps Reserves (1997-present).

- Daniel Scott Sullivan was born on November 13, 1964, in Fairview Park, Ohio, the son of Sandra (née Simmons) and Thomas C. Sullivan, formerly president and CEO of RPM International, a publicly traded manufacturing company founded by his father, Frank C. Sullivan, who established a roof coatings business in 1947.
