There’s very little to say about this video, beyond the fact that is funny and enjoyable. The company that produced it is, according to the email I received, a Taiwanese company called Next Media Animation.
The politics of a Taiwanese media company criticizing U.S. Navy spending are delightful. What other country depends more on the deterrent force of U.S. aircraft carriers, their aircraft and accompanying escort ships and submarines?
Add to that the fact that the U.S. plans to increase the share of its global fleet, currently divided in half between the Atlantic and Pacific, to 60 percent assigned in the Pacific, and you have one very cheeky company! We note that the Littoral Combat Ship is not mentioned in the video and wonder if the makers understand how important it looms in the Pacific strategy.
We’d love to hear from our Mandarin speakers whether the English translation accurately mirrors the spoken and written Chinese. And if this project was secretly underwritten by PRC agents, our hats are off to them for this very engaging propaganda effort! Next Media Animation is apparently a subsidiary of a Hong Kong company, for those hoping to spot the sinister panda’s involvement!
