Breaking Defense is pleased to announce another key development, bringing on board Tim Martin as European Bureau Chief. Martin will start in this new role on October 31. The move establishing a full-fledged editorial bureau dedicated to coverage of European defense issues continues Breaking Defense’s rapid global expansion and reinforces its commitment to the European defense market.

Martin will helm Breaking Defense’s European coverage, working with our existing group of highly capable European correspondents, who will continue in their areas of particular coverage. In addition, he will also provide his own expert coverage of broad-based European defense matters, from policy, force development and NATO alliance issues to coverage regarding the European defense industrial base.

Martin has spent the last three years as Air Editor at Shephard Media. After joining the company as a rotary reporter in 2017, he received promotion to the role of senior reporter. He won the Best Rotorcraft Submission at the 2022 Aerospace Media Awards and holds two Defence Media Awards to his name. Prior to Shepard Media, Martin spent 12 years as a journalist writing and editing for a variety of B2B publications. He holds a master’s degree in journalism from the University of Swansea, Wales.

“I’m thrilled to have Tim joining us to anchor our coverage in Europe,” said Breaking Defense editor in chief Aaron Mehta. “Having a point person on the ground will help bolster our coverage of both the strong local defense industries and the strategy, politics and policy that are driving what happens in the region. This is the most important time in decades for defense coverage out of Europe, and having Tim on board will boost our reporting tremendously.”

“We’re delighted to bring Tim Martin into the Breaking Defense team” said David Smith, Publisher and Managing Director. “We spent a great deal of time searching for a European Bureau Chief who will be the precise fit for our team – in journalistic quality and for our collaborative brand culture. Tim is that perfect fit. He’ll be a wonderful standard-bearer for our brand in Europe and will provide the ambitious, high-quality journalism for which Breaking Defense is known.”
