Watch Breaking Defense's one-on-one interview with the chairman of the House Appropriations defense subcommittee.

As the chairman of the House Appropriations defense subcommittee, Rep. Ken Calvert, R-Calif., has his finger on the defense budget’s pulse. That’s why The Congressional Roundup visited his office this week for a one-on-one interview between the chairman and Breaking Defense’s Valerie Insinna.

In this clip, the first of two parts, Calvert talked about the plan for a Continuing Resolution to keep the government open past Oct. 1, and how the fiscal 2026 budget is shaping up as negotiations get going.

“There are some who want to have a CR until spring. … That’s not something that we’re supportive of,” Calvert said, adding, “Hopefully we can be adults and get this worked out.”
