- Served in the California State Senate (1998-2006).
- Served in the California State Assembly (1986-1998).
- San Mateo County supervisor (1980-1986).
- From 1973-1978, Speier worked as legislative aide to Rep. Leo Ryan (D-Ca), who
died in the 1978 Jonestown Massacre in Guyana. Speier, who accompanied him,
was shot five times, but survived. - Introduced the ME TOO Act of 2018, which forms part of the revised1995 Congressional Accountability Act, which rules harassment claims in Congress.
