The Ministry of Defense is not expected to make its recommendation to the government until the end of October, at the earliest, said one source familiar with the issue.
"Lockheed Martin will deliver and transfer to Australia the same level of technology and development and advanced programs and systems that we have in our factories in United States," Pat Sunderlin, VP of operations for Lockheed Martin Missiles and Fire Control, said.
Speaking with Breaking Defense and Defense One on Tuesday, SPACECOM head Gen. Jim Dickinson noted the importance of space "governance," including "norms of responsible behavior," and the "need to better preserve" the space environment.
The system faced a handful of small delays, Breaking Defense has learned, but nothing that derailed the project.
"In some cases, over at least the past decade, we've been developing that software from the US, modifying it locally for Australian Defence Force needs, and, actually, some other regional customers in Asia-Pacific," said Sonny Foster of Collins Aerospace.
