That’s what today’s military forces expect from military Global Positioning System (GPS) products that play a crucial role in closing the kill chain. The kill chain is a fundamental concept of modern warfare. It refers to the process of identifying, tracking, engaging, and destroying a threat. It’s the blueprint essential to military planners who chart a course of distinct stages for engagement with adversaries.

And GPS is – quite literally – leading the way.

GPS satellites orbit the Earth and continuously transmit signals to terrestrial GPS receivers to determine their exact location. The technology assists in guiding weapons to the pre-determined location of its target with high precision, increasing the chances of a successful engagement and mission completion. BAE Systems’ NavStorm™-M now offers an enhanced version of this capability.

NavStorm-M – designed for use in artillery, bombs, missiles, and unmanned systems – features a layered protection approach using beamforming, anti-spoofing, resiliency, and software assurance. It is a next generation Assured-Positioning, Navigation and Timing (A-PNT) device featuring M-Code GPS technology.

It is designed to meet the compact size, weight, power, and cost (SWaP-C) requirements of unmanned aircraft systems, loitering munitions, hypersonic platforms, and other weapons – especially in gun-hardened applications or technologies built to withstand extreme conditions such as shock, heat, or vibration. NavStorm-M delivers precise GPS navigation as a stand-alone system or when integrated with an inertial navigation system.

The compact and highly jam- and spoof-resistant technology provides advanced, tailored solutions for everyone in the M-Code space. It compliments BAE Systems’ extensive military GPS portfolio allowing the company to solve individual customer problems in a cost-effective way, with solutions scaled to specific SWaP-C and performance requirements. The BAE Systems’ team has already delivered selective availability anti-spoofing module products to more than 45 countries and has begun delivering M-Code GPS receivers in multiple form factors and levels of capability to the U.S. armed forces and its allies via foreign military sales.

BAE Systems’ Military GPS User Equipment Increment 2 Miniature Serial Interface – program also recently completed critical design review. It’s a program to design and manufacture an advanced military GPS receiver and semiconductor. Development of this advanced M-Code core technology will create a capability that paces with the needs of modern warfare. It is also a testament to the company’s ongoing work to revolutionize navigation and guidance solutions for the foreseeable future.
