Pentagon, Networks & Digital Warfare

How are China, Ukraine and the US actually using military AI?

China wants to use its massive civilian surveillance network to grow military AI, but that may not work, according to a roundtable of experts.

Artificial intelligence is being used on the battlefields of Ukraine right now — or is it?

That’s one of the questions driving the second part of our roundtable series on military AI. Joining Editor-in-Chief Aaron Mehta is Sydney Freedberg, our own in-house AI expert, as well as Joshua Wallin of the Center for a New American Security and Kateryna Bondar of the Center for Strategic and International Studies.

The panel also looks at how China may or may not use AI, and why relying on their civilian database may not actually help Beijing in a conflict. Plus, we look at how the Pentagon is trying to learn lessons from conflicts abroad for its own AI efforts.
