“I predict that what you're going to see is something that is far more… limited, both in terms of the number of threats that are feasibly able to be stopped, and also in terms of the area that [can be] defended against,” said Tom Karako with CSIS.
As part of the defense deal, Riyadh will purchase nearly 300 tanks from Washington.

Among the scores of newly revealed deals is $876 million for up to 60 Chinooks for Germany and about as much for AeroVironment drones.
Army Secretary Dan Driscoll laid out the plan for Breaking Defense, including the formation of six new Portfolio Acquisition Executives.
“There's certainly no question about the emphasis on speed, but recognizing that there's a need for judgment and flexibility in that triangle of cost schedule performance,” said Under Secretary of Defense for Acquisition and Sustainment Michael Duffey.
“If the mil-to-mil relationship can be salvaged and can be kept, that's worthwhile and that's meritorious,” Rep. Mario Diaz-Balart told Breaking Defense.
The document, dated Oct. 20, and marked as controlled unclassified information, sheds additional light onto the Army's plans to host a new competition.
Gen. Mingus “always intended” for this to be “his last job,” adding that “it is a little early, sure but not significant," an Army source told Breaking Defense.
Navy Secretary John Phelan said the ongoing review is designed to make the original deal “better," to clear up some of the “ambiguity” and be a “win-win for everybody.”
“The ground-based midcourse defense mission that we traditionally held under NORTHCOM has expanded to air and missile defense holistically,” said Lt. Gen. Sean Gainey.
“Imagine a scenario where you can bring a jet into an operational area, but you can't get close enough to the threat … and then you send something in that can go even further, and now you have some penetrating capability,” Andrew Evans told reporters.
“I now have all my toys back. ... All of it is on the table for EagleEye,” said Anduril founder Palmer Luckey.
