"I think the most important thing that I'm communicating to industry is that we need a flexible network in the future," Mark Kitz, leader of PEO C3T, told Breaking Defense. "And we need to be able to iterate our programs so we can have that flexible network in the future."
The service has already asked vendors to come back with digital engineering “artifacts” and designs for two of its six modernization priorities, Army Under Secretary Gabe Camarillo told reporters.
The network transport architecture for NGC2 could be a hybrid approach that combines high assurance communications with 5G, WiFi, and multi-orbit satellites.
"I don't want one teammate. I want a team of industry that's going after this really robust set of applications that modernizes this sort of monolithic, single application," Mark Kitz told Breaking Defense.
The request comes weeks after Secretary of Defense Kathleen Hicks announced the Replicator initiative to counter China’s military mass.
"We must build a robust understanding of AI vulnerabilities, foreign intelligence threats to these AI systems and ways to counter the threat in order to have AI security," Gen. Paul Nakasone said. "We must also ensure that malicious foreign actors can't steal America’s innovative AI capabilities to do so.”
"Despite the speed and impacts from BRAVO hackathons, we are still finding the time from development of capabilities, calibrations, or tactics with operational data to employment in theater to be on the order of months or years," Stuart Wagner, Air Force chief digital transformation officer and BRAVO AI battle labs executive agent, said.

The service “will use Project Linchpin to develop and deploy trusted AI & ML capabilities to intelligence, cyber, and electronic warfare sensor systems,” Col. Chris Anderson, project manager for intelligence systems and analytics, said.

The GPS network continues to prove its unmatched reliability, and it’s only getting stronger.
“A cyber service might have some benefits in ease of administrative management, but we have a variety of...military services in the Department of Defense who perform a variety of missions," Mieke Eoyang said.
"Our objective during this live fire exercise was to shoot down UAS from dawn to dusk," Col. Robert McVey told Breaking Defense.
DoD "will prioritize technologies that can confound malicious cyber actors and prevent them from achieving their objectives in and through cyberspace," according to an unclassified summary.
"The current fielding plan should stay intact for CBC2 if we don't get all the money that we need up front," Brig. Gen. Luke Cropsey told reporters.
