“What I will guarantee from [a] Marine Corps perspective is all the information, all the data will be duly analyzed and treated to get that airplane back into flight as soon as possible," said Gen. Christopher Mahoney, assistant commandant of the Marine Corps.
A Navy spokesperson told Breaking Defense adding PAC-3 to the surface force's arsenal would not fill a capability gap, but supplement the current inventory of surface-to-air interceptors.
The Marine Corps has announced an industry day on Feb. 29 to discuss the next stage of the Advanced Reconnaissance Vehicle program.
“When we deviate from that schedule that’s been previously identified, that is where the 'going cold' starts to come into play,” said Lisa Papini, chairwoman of ACIBC. “And that’s where the concern is on that schedule.”
The four USVs featured in the exercise collectively transited 46,000 nautical miles over several months.
The Navy secretary didn't say what exactly prompted the review, but the announcement came hours after reports of potential delays with the service's new frigate.
There's no lack of excitement in the Navy about the idea of an operational laser on a ship underway, but the service must be more "intellectually honest" about what's possible, Rear Adm. Fred Pyle said at the Surface Navy Association's annual symposium.

A Newport News Shipbuilding executive said “nearly half” of the companies in the supply chain that provide long-lead time materials for aircraft carriers are at risk of "going cold.”
