"We have got to reflect prices that can allow us to have the labor pool that we need for the long term,” said the Navy official.
“Those efforts have been about workforce, hiring and retention. They have been about supply chain resiliency, modernization of the yards, strategic outsourcing [and] infrastructure issues,” Brett Seidle, the Navy's acting acquisition executive, told lawmakers on Wednesday.
The talk of a block buy will be welcome news to the industrial base, which has been lobbying the Pentagon for years to repeat the strategy it used for the third and fourth carriers in the class.
Rear Adm. Kevin Smith was relieved based on a "complaint substantiated" by the Naval Inspector General.
Hung Cao, a retired Navy officer, has been nominated to become the under secretary, but has yet to be confirmed.
"Those folks are coming, and then we're attriting out way too quick," said Brett Seidle, the Navy’s acting acquisition executive.
