WASHINGTON — The Senate approved Lt. Gen. Christopher Eubank to pin on his third star and take over as the head of Army Cyber Command.
Eubank was confirmed in the Senate Thursday along with eight other nominees for Army leadership positions. He is currently serving as special assistant to the commander of Army Space and Missile Defense Command/Army Forces Strategic Command, and he has previously served as the deputy commander and commander of Army Network Enterprise Technology Command.
In the role, Eubank will serve as the service cyber component to CYBERCOM, charged with coordinating and running cyber operations within Central Command, Africa Command and Northern Command.
A spokesperson for Army Cyber Command noted the timeline for Eubank to assume command is unclear right now.
Eubank will take over for Lt. Gen. Maria Barrett, who has been in command since May 2022, and is set to retire.
Army Cyber Command has been in the process of leading several AI pilots for its service as well as US Cyber Command. For instance, a pathfinder tool for continuous monitoring of anomalous behavior, called Panoptic Junction, was chosen by CYBERCOM to meet AI directives from the executive branch.
The command is also working to develop tactical cyber forces proficient in cyber and electronic warfare capabilities to formations around the world.
