The Pentagon doesn't believe Russia has fully unleashed its significant electronic warfare capabilities, a senior defense official said.
Optical clocks in labs today "fill out a huge room, a big room with a very complex, very sophisticated apparatus that takes multiple PhDs to run," Tatjana Curcic, who manages DARPA's Robust Optical Clock Network project, told Breaking Defense.
The effort is meant to help the service integrate new A-PNT systems faster as technology advances.
"The risks are real but are not quite as bad as some have claimed in some of the hypothetical 'day without space' scenarios," says Secure World Foundation's Brian Weeden.
"The Army needs information when and where they want it," said Rob Zitz, a former Army intel official. "The IC should not get a vote on what Army needs or how Army executes combat missions."
“We have data collection managers onsite, with stopwatches, [timing] how long does it take the data to get… from Point A to Point B to C,” said Army APNT director Willie Nelson.
This is part of a larger Army effort, launched in November by Army Secretary Ryan McCarthy, to map out the service's future space endeavors.
