The multimillion dollar deal for Empirical Systems Aerospace will "accelerate AV's ability to bridge the gap between conceptual design and manufacturing execution," AV chief Wahid Nawabi said.
“We have about 12 vendors out there showing us their kit,” Army Col. Guy Yelverton said of an ongoing competition for soldier common equipment. “And if they're all good, we'll select all 12, because we need a lot of capability in the counter UAS [unmanned aerial systems] environment.”
"The structure of the global defense sector is changing, and this transaction underscores that transformation," said analyst Byron Callan of the merger.
The SCAR program is being seen as more urgent for keeping satellite communications flowing as top brass have begun to worry more about possible great power conflict with China and/or Russia, Space Rapid Capabilities Office Director Kelly Hammett told Breaking Defense.
The service is also preparing to open up races for a handheld technology, mobile IBCS and flat panel array radar.

Space Force's Delta 6, known as the "Cyber Delta," currently has three squadrons assigned to cyber defense. Four new squadrons will stand up in the summer, Col. Roy Rockwell, who heads the delta, said.
