“Our Dark Sea Labs team enables what no single HII division can do on its own,” Eric Chewning, a senior executive at HII, told Breaking Defense.
The new UUV is derived from the same technology at the heart of the UUV being developed for the US Navy's Lionfish program.
The two companies aim to expand the use of both their unmanned vessels by linking them together — technologically and, at times, physically.
The selection of Remus 300 for the Lionfish program is a big win for HII, which has spent much of recent years positioning itself for the unmanned systems market.
