Small is beautiful, even at the largest defense show of the year. Polaris Defense makes off-road vehicles — light and rugged enough to drop from airplanes — in service with US Special Operations Command and various allied nations. The “Big Army” is considering the Polaris DAGOR, among other competitors, to carry airborne troops and other light infantry. And the Marines are about to buy Polaris MZRZ 4x4s (pronounce it “M-razor”), an off-road vehicle compact enough to drive aboard the V-22 Osprey tilt-rotor transport used by both the Marine Corps and Special Operations. Today at AUSA, Polaris spokesman Joaquin Salas showed us the company’s newest model, a MRZR variant that burns the same standard-issue diesel used by Army tanks and trucks, simplifying logistics and reducing the risk of fire.
