“The Chinese currently have pure economic interests in the region, especially the oil, and are happy to see the US spend plenty of resources in ensuring the security of the region and the safety of its waterways that allow the flow of oil from the region and Chinese products to the Middle East," one expert told Breaking Defense.
“While envisioned as a primary munition for CAML, Blackbeard GL is designed to be compatible with existing HIMARS platforms as an interim solution," the Army's fiscal 2026 budget said.
“If the mil-to-mil relationship can be salvaged and can be kept, that's worthwhile and that's meritorious,” Rep. Mario Diaz-Balart told Breaking Defense.
The Army is giving corps commanders the ability to control their own terrain in cyberspace, much like in their physical battlespace.
The Defense Command specifically recommended that “resources for the possible implementation of Barak MX should be used on other initiatives with greater immediate combat power."
Out of 2,077 active requirements, Army senior leaders have identified 516 for inactivation, according to new figures provided to Breaking Defense.
The document, dated Oct. 20, and marked as controlled unclassified information, sheds additional light onto the Army's plans to host a new competition.
"It is necessary to increase Estonia’s deep-strike capability with additional rocket launchers,” Estonia Minister of Defence Hanno Pevkur said in a press release.
