A senior AFRICOM official told Breaking Defense the command is still looking to shore up ISR capabilities after the 2024 Niger exit.
“This is about providing situational awareness [and] operational planning products,” Gen. Chance Saltzman told reporters as he talked up a pet program, TacSRT -- which some in the intelligence agencies say treads on their turf.
“I'm pretty sure that some of the representation from West Africa will bring it up [Russia moving into some African countries] because they all have been affected by Russia's activities," AFRICOM Commander Gen. Michael Langley said.
“We haven’t seen … the arrival of that many different, I would call ecosystems or capabilities, going that fast together in quite some time,” SOCOM Commander Gen. Bryan Fenton said of new technologies changing the nature of warfare.
